The university inaugurated the new meteorological station in Quito

UPS inaugurated its new meteorological station located in "Sur" campus in Quito. The inauguration was attended by representatives of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrography (INAMHI for its acronym in Spanish), professors and students from the university.

With this project UPS and INAMHI will work together to carry out studies and monitor the climate conditions in the south of the Ecuadorian capital in order to improve the quality of life of people who live in this sector.

Karina Pazmiño, director of the university's environmental engineering undergraduate program, explained that they are in charge of managing this project and that they will encourage climate studies in the this new station which is accredited by INAMHI.

Patricio Brasero, representative of INAMHI, said "this observation point will allow us to predict different natural changes. I want to congratulate UPS officials for their investment and commitment with society"

Father Jaime Chela, from the university's pastoral department, blessed the people who will be in charge of this project as well as the premises. He spoke about the Pope's encyclical  that promotes awareness to protect mother Earth and look after life.

Finally, professors and students who attended the course titled "The use of instruments and tools of the Meteorological Station" were awarded certificates that will enable them to participate in the project.
