UPS professor helped write the "2016 Indigenous Yearbook"

Pablo Ortiz, director of sustainable development major, researcher and a member of the International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA), was once again called to co-author the "2016 Indigenous Yearbook". The book is written by this Danish organization, with its headquarters in Copenhague, which is the advisor of the United Nations Forum on Indigenous Affairs which was held from the 9th to the 19th of May in New York. 

This year the book contains 54 reports from several countries and 12 international processes. Professor Ortiz's report in on Ecuador, which analyzes the government's politics and its effects on indigenous communities during 2015.

The IWGIA is an international NGO of human rights with over 40 years experience. It represents the work of an international and multidisciplinary group made up by specialists and advisors on indigenous affairs.

The 2016 Indigenous Yearbook was presented on May 17with the participation of UN speaker Victoria Tauli-Corpuz. The book has 556 pages with a general vision of changes in indigenous communities in 2015. 

Rie Odgaard and Lola García-Alix also attended on behalf of IWGIA.
