The university's Safety, Occupational Health and Environment Department and the Human Resources Department in Guayaquil organized an evacuation drill to assess people's response. 
The drill was controlled by members of the university's emergency brigades, made up by professors and administrative staff. "The aim of the organizers is to foster a culture of prevention among students and professors" said Jimmy Arce, in charge of the Safety, Occupational Health and Environment department.

During this drill, Heriberto Moreira, director of operations and traning at the National Security Company (CONASE for its acronym in Spanish) evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of the drill. 

The overall aim is to train the university community for possible natural disasters.
