The university's UTOPIA magazine just celebrated 20 years with a special event titled "The influence of UTOPIA in the education of a professional communicator", where students, alumni and professionals witnessed panel discussions, talks and presentations.

During the event, Jorge Dávila Vásquez, writer and professor, was awarded a special acknowledgment for contributing to UTOPIA on several occasions. Jorge Dávila was a winner of the Eugenio Espejo Award, which is given by the government to acknowledge cultural, literary and scientific activities. During his talk he told attendees about some of his anecdotes with salesians and encouraged students to write both from a professional and human point of view.

During 20 years UTOPIA has published 95 issues, each with about 80 pages, about local and global topics regarding youth.

Patricia Torres, UPS alumni and former reporter of UTOPIA, spoke about the importance of writing for the magazine while becoming a professional. "I finished my postgraduate studies in Spain and having been part of the magazine was a very positive professional learning experience.

Carolina Roman, journalist for Mercurio newspaper; Bryan Ochoa, environmental engineering student; and Abigail Peralta, former coordinator of UTOPIA, spoke about their experiences in the magazine and how it helped with their professional and human development and their performance in several areas of written communication.

Finally, UPS President Javier Herran highlighted the importance of all the salesian groups, specially the magazine, "students in the university should take advantage of what the university provides", he said.

As part of the celebration, in the next few days there will be a talk titled "Editorial management in the digital era" in the university's branch in Quito.
