On December 5th, the Support Center for Disabilities - CAI ( El Centro de Apoyo para la Discapacidad CAI )  celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is celebrated worlwide on December 3rd, by holding an event titled "Sustainable development: The promise of technology". The following institutions supported the event: El Asociacionismo Salesiano de Apoyo a la Inclusión (ASDI), el Grupo Académico de Software (GASOL) and Grupo de Tecnologías de Información y Comunicación Asociadas a Discapacidad TICAD.

The following institutions attended the event: Fundación Sin Barreras (FUNSIBA), Federación Nacional de Ciegos del Ecuador (FENCE) and the Francisco Falquez Ampuero public school.

The aim of this event was to present inclusive education projects for people with disabilities which are carried out in UPS. "CAI is one of the projects we have developed to help people with disabilities, it has great tools to improve their lives", said UPS professor Nelson Mora.

CAI has state-of-the-art technology in hardware and software such as the Screen Reader, a screen reader for visual impairment, Braille printers and adaptive applications for motor disabilities that seeks to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities. "CAI is a project that has become ideal so that people with disabilities can be educated with the use of technology," said Mora.

The Support Center for Disability works from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 19:00 and Saturdays from 08:00 to 17:00.

There was a folk dance performance, singing and a painting exhibition presented by people with disabilities from the Sin Barreras Foundation. "We saw great cultural expressions and once again we have demonstrated that these people greatly contribute to society", said Sheyla Garaicoa, from CAI.
