The university's branch in Guayaquil held a talk titled "Decolonization of words" whose aim was to analyze the role of means of communication in order to democratize words through active participation.

The talk was part of the celebration to commemorate 20 years of Utopia magazine and was attended by UPS President Father Javier Herran, Monica Carriel and Domenica Baez, journalists, and UPS professor Stalyn Paz.

Father Javier Herran highlighted the social commitment that all communicators should have nowadays, and how it should become a life experience during professional activities. "You write so that people discover your skills and if you don't turn your knowledge into action, you will not gain experience", he said.

Domeinica Baez spoke about the importance of intercultural content in means of communication. "As communicators we must share this type of information because that way we are sharing our own identity with interlocutors", she said.

During his talk, Stalyn Paz said that "in the role of communication we should not merely transmit information, we must create new communication, that's what democratization of words is about" in order to understand the new approach of communication.

Finally, there was a round of questions with the participation of students who are members of the magazine in the university's three branches (Cuenca, Quito and Guayaquil). For Raul Suqillo, coordinator of the magazine in Quito, students should empower themselves with this means of communication which represents great things for the university. "Utopia magazine is more than just a team, it is a family that helps each other. "
