UPS students majoring in electric engineering, electronic engineering, automation, mechatronics and computing took part in the 2016 "Burning Bots" competition that was organized IEEE student branch in the university's branch in Cuenca.

For the first time in this competition there were two high schools that participated in this event, Unidad Educativa Tecnico Salesiano and Unidad Educativa Rosa de Jesús Cordero. Students showed all their creativity and knowledge in order to build these technological dolls; during the contest there was also a competition for the best costumes.

To end the competition, there were performances form the university's dance and music groups. Cristina Bustos,   organizer of this event and the president of IEEE, said that "one of the aims of the competition is to have events where students can demonstrate their creativity and create innovative projects".
