Photography competition displays the work of salesian students

Students from the univesity's branch campus in Quito were the winners of the 2nd Photograpy Competition aimed at showing students' work with the community. Elena Ruiz won first place, Fernando Ortiz, UPS professor, won second place and Eduardo Pallo won third place. UPS student Kimberly Cueva was awarde a mention of honor. 

The jury was made up members of the university community as well as external people: Alexandra Novoa, Carmita Coronado (UPS professors), Silvia Gómez and Kevin Cevallos, communication students UPS.

Juan José Pulamarin, the organizar of this event, said this idea was encouraged by Father Marcelo Farfan and made posible by the coordinators of the pastoral department in order to see the work carried out by students within the volunteer program VAS. The aim of UPS is to strengthen the culture of service and respect towards others from an intercultural perspective.

Maria del Carmen Ramirez, director of the communication undergraduate program in Quito, highlighted the importance of photography as the first means of communication that shows a part of reality of events and which can remain in people's minds.

At the end of the event students were invited to take part in the next competition. Photographs will be accepted until July 7th. For more information about the 3rd competition students can go to the university's pastoral department in "El Giron" campus.
