A special ceremony was held to inaugurate new officials for the UPS Cuenca IEEE Student Branch for the 2017-2018 period. The event was attended by the university's main officials, UPS President Javier Herran, UPS General Vice President Luis Tobar, vice president of the university's branch Cesar Vasquez, the national representative of the EMB's (Engineering in Medicine and Biology) Monica Huerta, the director of the electronic engineering major Rene Avila and the mentor of this branch, Eduardo Pinos. 

The main objective of the IEEE branch is to grow throughout the institution and the city of Cuenca with projects of social nature in order to strengthen research processes with global involvement and technological innovation that benefits communities. 

In his speech, Javier Herran said students do a great job to get involved with society and that these activities are a complement their professional education. He congratulated the new officials of IEEE and said "your work must have an impact that benefits all students".

The former officials of the IEEE student branch were awarded recognitions for the work carried out during their period. The new officials will provide added value for its members and will generate opportunities in order to favor the development of skills that will be necessary in the labor market.

Andres Chacon, the new UPS Cuenca IEEE President, thanked all his classmates for their trust and said he is committed to working hard so the university keeps its high quality standards.
