UPS inaugurated new communication laboratories

On May 18th, the university's branch campus in Quito inaugurated the new communication laboratories which meet the highest technical and technological requirements and which will strengthen academic processes of research and community involvement. The new laboratories include:

-    Studio and TV set

-    MAC Laboratory for hypermedia production

-    4  voice over booths and radio production

-    2 photography studios

-    4 rooms for editing and postproduction, and the audiovisual production laboratory

-    Sound production

-    Visual production

-    Hypermedia production 

-    Projection room 

The inauguration was attended by Father Fransisco Sanchez, Inspector of Salesians in Ecuador and UPS Chancellor; Father Javier Herran, UPS President; Edgar  Tello, acting vice president of the university's branch campus in Quito; Maria del Carmen Ramirez, director of the school of communication; students, professors, administrative staff and representatives from Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Universidad Central, Escuela Politécnica Nacional, SIGNIS, Conferencia Episcopal and other public and private institutions. 

Edgar Tello welcomed all the attendees and also invited everyone to be part of students' education. Maria del Carmen Ramirez said the laboratories meet the needs of technological innovation, higher education and students' demands to combine theoretical knowledge with hands on practice, which will guarantee quality education for the future communicators of our country. 

UPS president, Javier Herran said the laboratories will help students face the future and that communication is part of our identity. He also asked professors to improve their academic practices in order to reduce student dropout rates and increase the number of graduates.

The inspector of the salesians congratulated the university for its effort to continuously improve. Father Herran and Dr. Ramirez cut the ribbon and officially inaugurated the laboratories, which were later visited by students, professors and guests.
