Since June, the communication undergraduate program in the university's branch campus in Guayaquil has been carrying out the second part of their reading and writing project called "Palabras de luz" or "Words of light" in English. The aim of this project is to encourage poetry writing for people with visual impairment from Guayaquil.

Ten students are currently taking part in the project which will end in September; it is being held in Guayaquil's municipal library. "Ten people who like poetry are currently participating in the project, they belong to the braille center in Guayaquil", said UPS professor Augusto Rodriguez who is in charge of the project.

The overall aim of the project is to make people with visual impairment come in contact with literature by using entertaining activities, poetry books and games that awaken their imagination, strengthening and improving their reading and writing. The university seeks to be socially responsible with its programs and projects and have more students get involved.

"We want students to work up close with the participants of this project and use their creativity", said Rodriguez.

At the end of the project they will make a memoir with all the work carried out during this project.
