To commemorate "Ecuadorian Sports Day", Universidad Politecnica Salesiana's branch campus in Guayaquil held an exhibition of postcards, Olympic coins and memorabilia in honor of Jefferson Perez Quezada, Olympic champion in Atlanta 1996.

The event was attended by Luis Mendoza, director of the Ecuadorian post office in Guayaquil; Cesar Polit Icaza, member of the Panathlon Club of Ecuador; Eduardo Alvarez, president of the olympic philately association of Ecuador; and Victor Emilio Estrada, coordinator of Sports at UPS.

In the exhibition, there were the official uniforms used by Jefferson Perez in Atlanta '96, the Bolivarian and Panamerican games. "We have an exhibition of the first commemorative coin, official mascots, flags and other memorabilia", said Estrada.

Cesar Polit, briefly spoke about the achievement of Jefferson Perez in Atlanta '96 and said that Perez is the best Ecuadorian Athlete and spots icon for young people. "To be successful in life, we have to overcome adversities with great effort and perseverance like Perez did", he said.

During this event there were also judo lessons, gymnasium and a basketball tournament with teams from UPS, ESPOL, Salesianos and Emelec. "We hope this is the first of many other exhibitions to come; the aim is to keep the spirit and the memory of sports triumphs alive in society", said Estrada.
