NEW MATERIALS AND TRANSFORMATION PROCESSES RESEARCH GROUP- GIMAT

The New Materials and Transformation Processes Research Group (GIMAT for its acronym in Spanish) aims to support the development of new materials in Ecuador, as well as contribute in studies of the transfer of new transformation processes in the national industry. It also works with national and international research networks.

High technological levels in advanced countries is largely driven by the generation, development and use of new materials. This activity has encouraged the development of research and education programs worldwide in this field. At the local level, a systemic research process has not been developed to improve existing materials and generate new materials in Ecuador. The technology currently being used in the industry generates a high level of waste in the processing of materials due to its age, operators’ lack of knowledge and other reasons. The incorrect use and transformation of materials raises production costs and makes companies less competitive.
