The University's Milk Quality Laboratory was accredited by the Ecuadorian Accreditation Service (SAE for its acronym in spanish) under the ISO 17025 standard, which certifies compliance with the requirements necessary for the operation of testing and calibration laboratories, facilitating the harmonization of quality criteria, technical competence and reliability of results.

The accreditation process began in 2015. During this time the management system was implemented, the technical part was improved with inter-laboratory tests and an audit called SAE was carried out. The person in charge of the process was Paola Simbaña, who is in charge of the laboratory.

This laboratory is located in the university's continuing education center in Cayambe. It opened in 2008 to carry out processes related to the analysis of compositional quality and hygienic quality of raw milk. It provides services to the cattle producers of the Cayambe canton and dairy companies that operate in the area.

They also analyze physical - chemical parameters of milk such as fat, protein, lactose, total solids and hygienic quality. They carry out bacterial counts, the sanitary quality of the product is verified and they detect diseases such as mastitis. Currently, they conduct research about the agents that cause it and to what type of antibiotics the bacteria that cause it are resistant.

The cost of laboratory services for companies is based on the market value, while people from the communities and small producers pay a minimum value since the aim is the improvement of milk quality.
