The Automotive Engineering undergraduate program at Universidad Politécnica Salesiana´s branch campus in Cuenca, celebrated its 20th anniversary with a number of activities from October 23 to 27. The celebration had its main event in the Padre Carlos Crespi university theater with the presence of the main university officials and special guests.

The ceremony began with a talk from Luis Tobar Pesantez, UPS general vice president, who recalled some details about the creation of this program that, at present, is one of the most desired by young high-school students in search of a future profession in the university. Tobar congratulated all those who make up the program and encouraged them to continue working hard, which has been the basis for the success of this program.

Professor Fernando Chica spoke about the presence and relevance that the automotive mechanical sector has had in the city of Cuenca, since the creation of the first mechanical workshops, which the owners created with their own effort, to create jobs for many young people in Cuenca who chose this profession. 

In this regard, automotive engineering program recognized the workshops in the city with over 30 years of existence. Tony Miotto received the recognition on behalf of his father, Martin Miotto and the other honorees to thank the university.

Professor Jorge Altamirano, said the Automotive Engineering undergraduate program is is the result of Salesians in Cuenca, which promoted the development of arts and crafts with technical training which later became university programs.

The Director of automotive engineering undergraduate program, Cristian García, thanked the university officials for jointly celebrating the 20 years of history, projects and opportunities for Cuenca and its citizens: "20 years of institutional and social commitment," he said. García thanked the academic community, the administrative and service staff, for the dedicated and committed work, the contribution and support necessary to fulfill excellence in the training of thousands of young people over two decades.
