From the 1st to the 3rd of November, in the city of Medellin, Colombia, the National Institute of Science and Technology from Argentina and Universidad de Antioquia de Colombia organized a workshop on milk payment schemes in Latin American countries and the third meeting of the Latin American Dairy Laboratories Network.

This event was part of the National and International Meeting of Livestock Sciences Researchers. Paola Simbaña, who is in charge of the milk quality laboratory in Cayambe, attended on behalf of UPS.

Participants discussed the different systems of raw milk payment in Latin America in order to learn the characteristics of each one and then seek harmonization between the stakeholders involved in the process: State, the buyer, the seller and the laboratories.

In addition, the activities and progress of REDLAT were reviewed as a project sponsored by the Ibero-American Program of Science and Technology for Development that allows researchers, technical experts and entrepreneurs to keep up to date with scientific and technical advances in this field.

Simbaña said that in order to improve the exchange of information and visibility of the network, they agreed on the following proposals: share the REDLAT database with all the related institutions to disseminate the activities carried out by each institution, establish synergies through projects and present proposals together.
