The university's branch campus in Guayaquil held several conferences on "Current Environmental Norms" in order to disseminate information about policies and programs to prevent and control climate change which is affecting our planet.

Mostly industrial engineering students took part of this event since they are led by three main elements : quality, safety and environment. Therefore, these talks are very important, said Raul Alvarez, director of this undergraduate program.

Some of the topics were:

- Good environmental practices

- Environmental regulation processes

- Reference terms for environmental control audits

- Projects carried out by the Prefecture

The conferences were led by representatives of the Prefecture; they spoke about different ways to reduce environmental damage such as recycling, saving water, how to correctly dispose of organic waste and growing trees.

For Veronica Llaguno, director of Environmental Management in the Prefecture of Guayas, these activities encourage good practices in the academic community. "The environment is everyone's responsibility and our planet can no longer wait" she said.

To foster the practice of reforestation, at the end of the event UPS representatives were given 20 trees from different species so they can be planted and taken care of. "It is necessary to create awareness about the importance of caring for the environment", said Jonathen Espinoza, industrial engineering student.
