UPS students officially presented the results of the community involvement projects which were aimed at improving people's work conditions.

Two projects will improve production processes in companies which belong to the "El Salinerito" group, located in Salinas de Guaranda. One of the projects is a control system that will enable the modernization of a machine that processes chocolate. This project was done by Lucero Perez and Danny Coffre, electronic engineering students.

Alejandro Guamba and Cristian Páez, telecommunications students, redesigned a low power transmitter for "Radio Salinerito" which will connect uptown with Salinas de Guaranda. The interconnection of several companies in the area was also carried out through a matrix system that will allow them to access an accounting package for an independent billing. This work was done by students Christian López and Alberto Robalino.

Fr. Antonio Polo, director of the Salesian community in Salinas de Guaranda, Marcelo Allauca, director of Radio El Salinerito, Vinicio Escobar, worker of El Salinerito and other representatives attended the presentation of the projects and thanked the students for their work, time and application of their knowledge for the benefit of the community.

On the other hand, Joao Sebastián Salas, from the Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program, carried out the project "Design of a system of irrigation by pumping with 24 sprinklers for the Rafael Cabrera stadium in the canton of San Miguel de Urcuquí". This proposal is part of the inter-institutional agreement signed between the Autonomous Decentralized Government (GAD) of Urcuquí and UPS, which allowed a joint work of a social nature for the inhabitants of the canton. "The objective of the project was to apply my knowledge for the benefit of the community in which I was born," Salas said.
