The university's branch campus in Cuenca held a meeting to present the report from the project titled "Peer tutoring" where students from upper levels help new students academically. This project is coordinated by the Educational Innovation research group.

The Peer Tutoring program started in 2017 with the business administration and accounting undergraduate programs with a total of 210 students who are currently attending the tutoring sessions from 11am – 1pm to reinforce their understanding or mathematics, accounting, financial mathematics, costs and general accounting.

Cesar Vasquez, vice president of the university's branch campus in Cuenca, spoke about the work carried out in the university and especially this project, whose aim is to reduce the number of students who fail and have to take the same subject again. By attending the tutoring sessions students will not only get better grades but they will also have strong basis for upper levels.

These are the students (tutors) who are working on this project: Adriana Tigsi, Andrea Pesantez, Cristina Mora, Cristopher Ramón, Daniela Valarezo, Camila Hurtado, Vanessa Vera, Fernanda Peláez, Michael Cárdenas, Jessica Tello, Joseline García, Juan Cajamarca, Leidi Balarezo, María Pazmiño, Maritza Saguay, Michael Guaraca, Pamela Sacta, Rene Coronel, Wilmer Guayara, Xavier Paredes

Cristhian San Martín, a member of the GIETAES Educational Innovation group and the coordinator of this project, explained that the tutorials are unique, since it involves officials, program directors, teachers, tutors and students, which enables mutual support and constant feedback of the process.

It should be noted that the program includes integration sessions, group meetings, workshops to train reviewers, talks with graduates, and others. Attendance to all activities is not mandatory and there are flexible schedules.
