Irrigation channel project in Cayambe and Pedro Moncayo

UPS representatives and local officials met in the Pedro Moncayo Convention Center located in Tabacundo to formally start the irrigation channel project in the cantons of Cayambe and Pedro Moncayo,. The project will improve the quality of life of the residents of the sector; students and teachers from 16 undergraduate programs in the university's branch campus in Quito will take part in this project.

The event was held on January 6 and was attended by officials from the northern zone of Pichincha, including Fabián Andrango, president of CODEMIA, Benjamín Tarabata, outgoing authority; Guillermo Churuchumbi, Mayor of the Plurinational and Intercultural Autonomous Decentralized Government (GAD) of Cayambe; Frank Borys Gualsaquí, mayor of Pedro Moncayo; Humberto Cholango, national secretary of Water; as well as José Juncosa, vice president of UPS's branch campus in Quito.

The National Secretary of Water congratulated the management and organization of this proposal which benefits the communities of the north of Pichincha which have been affected by water scarcity in their production activities for decades. Hopefully this situation will improve with the operation of the channel. This project is supported by the Prefecture of the province.

The Vice president said the university supports communities located in the area of influence of the channel through training and technical assistance in production and irrigation activities.
