During a press conference held on February 8th, the automotive engineering undergraduate program in Guayaquil presented the results of a research they held regarding the implementation of electric vehicles in the city. The aim of this project is to determine the presence of electric vehicles in city located at sea level.

Renato Fierro, director of this program, said that through mathematical simulations students put their theoretical knowledge into practice, in this case by monitoring the behavior of electrical systems from a computer.

The research focused on five topics: the actual travel time, the distance, the position of the acceleration pedal, the speed of the engine and the slope of the road. For Fierro, defining the autonomy in automobiles will allow the work on major projects such as the implementation of electric stations (charging stations for electric vehicles) and mass public transport such as taxis and electric buses.

As he explained, in a route of 90 km / h on the road, the electric vehicle has a consumption of 17 kilowatts / hours, which represents a cost of $ 1.36, which saves fuel in 80% compared to combustion vehicles. In addition, the use of these cars, would allow a considerable reduction in the emission of carbon dioxide, with benefits the environment and citizens.
