Seminar on new technological tools for veterinay medicine

The university's branch campus in Cuenca held a seminar titled "Technological advances in Veterinary Clinical Laboratory" in order to present new technologies and tools used internationally in veterinary medicine. The event was held in the university's veterinary clinic and in Paute.

UPS president Javier Herran, congratulated the veterinary program for organizing this event and said "Innovation is not only about discoveries, but also about strategically directing its application in order to optimize its effects on the health of animals".

The topics of the seminar were:

• "Immunological response to viruses" and "Basic concepts of the ELISA technique" presented by Armando Reyna from Escuela Politécnica del Ejército. 

• "Bovine Tuberculosis: Etiology" by Patricio Sandoval of the Agrocalidad organization. 

• "Bovine brucellosis" by Herman Calderón, an official of Animalab. 

• "Porcine mycoplasmosis" by Luis Rodrigo Saa from Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja. 

• "Taking, sending and preserving samples for clinical pathology" and "Urinalysis, hepatic and pancreatic exocrine evaluation" by Araceli Lima from Universidad Autónoma de México

Juan Masache, coordinator of the event, said participants were happy about the topics because they are very useful for the functions performed by professionals in the field of Veterinary Medicine.

Finally, in the workshops participants practiced with the experts in: antigen-antibody interaction and its application in the veterinary diagnosis; flare test; application of the Elisa IgM test; sample processing interpretation of clinical case results; diagnostic test for parvovirus and canine distemper; hematology interpretation of clinical cases; reading of tuberculosis tests; electrolyte evaluation and acid-base balance.
