Bioethics and Society was the topic of the second meeting to prepare for the International University Congress that will take place in Cuenca from the 3rd to the 5th of October. 

UPS president Javier Herran welcomed everyone to the meeting and highlighted the work being carried out by universities in Cuenca in the field of research, he also invited students from to take part in all the meetings before the international congress.

The topics presented during this event were: "Perception of vulnerable sectors in Cuenca on corruption", presented by Luis Tobar, general academic vice-president of UPS, and "Assistance technologies, artificial intelligence and disability: a focus on bioethics and social responsibility ", by Professor Vladimir Robles.

Tobar presented an extensive analysis about the perception of inhabitants from vulnerable sectors in the city of Cuenca in relation to the credibility and tolerance of corruption in government entities. The results are the product of an investigation that considers fourteen rights and needs of citizens: family feeding, housing needs, personal rights, citizen security, labor market, probity and corruption, environment, basic services, including public transport, health care, culture and education, citizen security and probity and corruption. "After analyzing the surveys it was possible to verify that the government entities are those that have the highest corruption index according to the criteria of these citizens," he said.

Robles explained how millions of users around the world use technology every day accessing social networks, using robotic assistants and various devices called "smart" that record and store large amounts of information. "These technological advances have become tools that are used in several areas, such as education, health care, assistance for people with disabilities, leisure and even at work,". He also stressed the work that the university does with children, youth and adults with disabilities using different technological resources to improve their quality of life.

Finally, the officials of the universities which are organizing the congress invited people to attend the third day of these meetings at Universidad Catolica de Cuenca on Friday June 22.
