Professors discuss higher education in Latin America

To commemorate one hundred years of the cordova reform, UPS professors in Cuenca presented their experiences on the progress and challenges of higher education in Ecuador. About 200 people took part of this event.

Some of the topics professors presented were: "Cultural diversity, inclusion and public policies" and "Experiences of entrepreneurship projects". The event was organized by the Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.

Victoria Jara, director of the pedagogy undergraduate program, presented the topic: "Inclusive education in the university from an intercultural perspective" and spoke about the university's good practices which consider that indigenous students have a right to education and have broad cultural richness.

Blas Garzón presented the topic "Impact of the salesian preventive system on teaching detainees" and spoke about the university's project of teaching undergraduate programs to detainees. The academic programs were created by the university so that detainees can have access to higher education.

The third speaker was Adriana Toral, coordinator of the reading and writing center. She presented the topic "Reading and writing practices in higher education".

Finally, Professor Gabriela Araujo presented the topic "Project based learning". She spoke about how students have worked on their business ideas based on this approach and have generated new ventures. 

Experts from Argentina, Chile, Ecuador and Mexico took part in this event to analyze higher education in Latin America.
