Arturo Peralta presented his research in an academic event held in Colombia

Arturo Peralta, a professor of electronic engineering at UPS-Cuenca took part in the Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing, COLCOM 2014, which was held in Bogotá.

At the conference, professor Peralta presented 2 research projects which he had begun working on last year; he continuously improved them and thus they were accepted to this international congress which gathered more than one hundred representatives from universities around the world.

His first paper is titled “Multiservice hybrid WDM/TDM–PON dimensioning using a heuristic method” and the second “Analysis of dispersive and nonlinear effects in an optical channel by employing numerical methods”.

His first project is based on the increasing amount of information being demanded by fixed and mobile users through multiservice networks. In this sense, the deployment of the optical segment in the access network is a fundamental issue, with an impact in the cost and performance of the global network. This project is a proposal to use a heuristic method in the deployment of multiservice hybrid WDM/TDM–PON.

The second project demonstrates the model of an optical channel to solve the non-linear Schrödinger equation (NLSE). It shows two alternatives to solve NLSE: the analytic solution and the numeric solution with the split-step Fourier method. The simulation considered linear effects such as chromatic dispersion and non-linear effects.
