The Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting was held in Cuenca

The university hosted the Third Ecuador Technical Chapters Meeting (ETCM), one of the most important congresses of IEEE in Latin America.  The Congress was held from October 15th – 19th in our branch campus in Cuenca and Oro Verde Hotel.  

The ETCM is an annual congress organized by the technical chapters of the Section of the IEEE, the largest body in the world, aimed at fostering the development of engineering professions. The first two congresses were organized in 2016 and 2017 with the co - sponsorship of ESPOL and the Universidad del Espíritu Santo. 

In the congress there are keynote speeches given by international experts such as: Dr. Samir Iqbal from the University of Texas (USA); Dr. Warren Dixon and Dr. Jose C. Principe, from the University of Florida (USA); Dr. Humberto Bustince from the University of Navarra; Dr. Enrique Miranda from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona; Dr. Sudhir Dixit from the University of Oulu, Finland and Dr. Julio Viola from Universidad Politecnica Salesiana (UPS). There were also 5 tutorials led by national and international experts, supported by companies such as IOET, ThoughtWorks and the Iberoamerican Network CYTED-RIEGONETS.

"In this event, they presented research in: mechatronics, electricity, electronics, telecommunications, bioengineering, computing and related areas, of more than 200 researchers from Ecuador and neighboring countries" said Mónica Huerta, professor and researcher at UPS.

UPS students Pablo Urgillés, Doménica Merchán and David Pinos won first place in the Student Paper Contest with their paper titled "Análisis de diccionarios de ondas Wavelet para modelamiento de perfil de energía eléctrica en edificios universitarios de Cuenca – Ecuador".
