Directors from the branch campus in Cuenca took part in a training session titled "A sustainable and strong university in disaster prevention", whose aim was to create organizational awareness on this matter and a guide for prevention and decision making regarding work related risks.

The session took place in "El Chorro", in Giron, located in the province of Azuay and was led by its firemen department.

Klever Ochoa, in charge of occupational health and the environment, gave a brief introduction to the training course and spoke about reducing risks in the event of a disaster.

Participants were divided into groups of 4 and guided by firemen who agreed that nowadays managing disaster prevention is an important issue. These training courses allow educational institutions to make decisions that will benefit students. When there is no knowledge on this issue many lives can be at risk.

To end the course, participants took part in a rescue activity. The university is now planning to hold training courses for its branch campus in Guayaquil and Quito.
