Paúl Maldonado and Odaliz Castillo, industrial engineering students in the university's branch campus in Guayaquil, presented their research titled "Alternative Method for the Fermentation of Cocoa Beans" in the 23rd Congress of the Chilean Association of Automatic Control (IEEE ICA – ACCA 2018).

The research suggests a new methodology for the fermentation of cocoa that consists of the use of a new electromechanical system to eliminate the contamination of cocoa with lactobacilli during the process, thus achieving a decrease in the fermentation time of the fruit and encouraging growth and technological development of the country's agroindustrial sector.

"The machine will remain in the university for future research", said Paul Maldonado. For the researchers, this is a very relevant project since it presents new opportunities for agricultural production in the country.

This event brings together researchers in the field of automation and presents the latest technological advances in this field. The projects will be published in the Scopus data base.
