Ines Yambay, computer engineering student in the university's branch campus in Cuenca and a member of the Artificial Intelligence and Assistive Technology Research Group (Grupo de Investigación en Inteligencia Artificial y Tecnologías de Asistencia (GIIATA), received the award "ESVI-AL" during the 6th ATICAccess International Conference for her project titled "Recognition of speech and automatic subtitling as a support tool in the process of cognitive stimulation for older adults".

The research project presents an offline application that automatically creates subtitles from audios that are recorded in real time. "The app is a tool that supports the elderly so they can understand information and overcome the barrier of communication", said Ines Yambay.

The project was supported by professors Paola Ingavélez and Yaroslava Robles. The project was tested with a sample of 135 audios and with 25 elderly people from the "Rosa Elvira de León" gerontology center in Azogues. The aim was to see people´s perception of the app.

In conclusion, the results were positive and the project will surely be a fundamental contribution for the elderly who have a hearing problem
