Students and professors from the Philosophy undergraduate program took part in the meeting titled "The relevance of philosophy in our time" whose aim was to have a debate on the role of philosophy in contemporary society and on intercultural philosophy. The meeting was attended by Ecuadorian universities from Ecuador and Uruguay.

Pablo Drews, from Universidad Catolica de Uruguay, spoke about philosophy as a diagnosis of culture. "At this stage, the role of the philosopher is to describe the functioning of the instincts or drives to explore the functions, values and origin of culture. It is important to determine the behavior and functioning of values, as well as the harmful or beneficial consequences for human life"

Professor Darwin Reyes spoke about the current meaning of philosophy and said it becomes updated in culture and in people. On the second day of the event they held the forum "Intercultural philosophy: challenges and tendencies" with the participation of David Cortez Jimenez from the university of Ravensburg Weingarten, in Germany; Vinolo Stephane from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador and Julián Garcíade from Universidad Politecnica Salesiana.

Cortez said that interculturality is not a recipe but an opportunity to coexist. "There are certain margins to create a meeting place, a debate, and relationships. Cultural differences are interchangeable, that is a great support for decolonization of knowledge, of thinking and acting."

For an intercultural philosophy, García suggested some topics such as critical historical access for the analysis of the implications of a field referred to culture; a genealogy of intercultural philosophy, problematizing the relationships between culture, power and knowledge and the need to listen to other experiences of humanization.

"Guyasamin's paintings excites me, I still don't know anything about his world or culture but there is something in those paintings that unites different worlds, which is an example", said Vinolo. The event ended with music group Camara de Venezuela directed by professor Patricio Guerrero, the dance group Saruymanda and the folk music group from Universidad Central de Ecuador.
