The book: "Pastos y Forrajes del Ecuador, siembra y producción de pasturas"

Our branch campus in Quito presented the book titled "Pastos y Forrajes del Ecuador, siembra y producción de pasturas"; a book that presents academic research from three universities and hopes to help livestock producers improve production.

The authors of the book are Nancy Bonifaz (UPS), Ramiro León (Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE) and Francisco Gutiérrez (Universidad Central del Ecuador). "There are very few publications in this field, we wanted to include topics like production, planning, management, improvement, diseases, fertilization of pastures and other topics that interest producers", said Nancy Bonifaz, professor of biotechnology.

Jose Juncosa, vice president of the university's branch in Quito, said "the university welcomes authors that are willing to work with our professors. It is necessary to be concerned about topics in society and create a community that conducts research".

The authors believe that in Ecuador the surface of pastures is greater than any other crop and represents the main source of food for ruminant animal species that provide and satisfy the demand for food in meat and dairy products. However, this sector has difficulties to maintain a constant and sustained development, so the authors have gathered their academic, research and field experiences to write the book.
