Sustainable development in agricultural production in Cuenca

Students and professors from the biotechnology undergraduate program in Cuenca presented the results of their community engagement project titled: "Updating the environmental management plan by implementing biotechnological activities that will optimize the implementation of the plan for agricultural producers in Sinincay (CPAS)". 

The project was carried out with the Ministry of the Environment and members of the agricultural producers association in the district of Sinincay in the city of Cuenca. Participants were given talks on agro ecology, organic agriculture, precision agriculture and some biotechnological applications.

The results of the project were positive for the sustainable development in farm production, some of the results are:

- Physical - chemical analysis of soil

- Report on the initial status of crops

- Production of bio fertilizers

- Training sessions on farming techniques, management of soil, biotechnological processes

- Processing of natural products

- Processing and developing products with added value from natural products

- Implementation of an agro ecological fair in the district
