Thanks to its community involvement project, the Systems Engineering major taught some basic computer tools such as word, excel power point and preventive maintenance to prisoners at the Guayaquil No.1 detention center.

On December 22 the prisoners who attended the course were given certificates for their participation. Monica Gomez, Wendy Luna, UPS representative, and Paolo Cedeño attended the ceremony.

UPS professors Nelson Mora, Dario Huilcapi, Mónica Gómez, Félix Mendoza, Jorge Llaguno, Máximo Tandazo, Daniel Plúa and Bertha Naranjo along with 20 students developed the project whose aim is to improve the prisoners' quality of life. 

Ledy Zuñiga Rocha, Minister of Justice visited the detention center to witness the work done by UPS students.

Fabian Recalde, Director of the detention center, and Paolo Cedeño said the prisoners were glad to take part in the course and that this will help their reintegration into society.
