The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a professional organization dedicated to innovation and technology to benefit humanity. IEEE and its members encourage communities through their journals, publications, conferences and professional and academic activities.

The IEEE Ecuador Chapter awarded Universidad Politecnica Salesiana (UPS) professor Monica Huerta the Exemplary Instructor Award for her outstanding contribution and performance in student activities. 

An instructor's dedication to the student branch is demonstrated through leadership and the obtained results. This award is supported by the IEEE Ecuador Chapter Student Activities Committee and is awarded every year. 

About 35 students are part of the IEEE student branch in Cuenca; professor Huerta said that they are currently working on several projects such as: women in bioengineering, webinars with experts in bioengineering and talks with recognized speakers.
