Our branch campus in Guayaquil held the 1st Academic Meeting to Strengthen Scientific Research which was aimed at students, professors, researchers and coordinators of the university's research groups.
 
The two day meeting was led by PhD Jose Valderrama, a professor in Universidad de la Serena (Chile) and chief editor of the journals Información tecnológica and Formación Universitaria (both indexed to Scielo). He spoke to participants about his experience and knowledge in research. " I want to strengthen this area by telling people how its done in other places, the aspects that should be improved in order to be part of the system of scientific communication in the world", he said.
 
In the first day, coordinators of the research groups attended the workshop titled "A model to distribute academic activities and research". During this workshop, participants learned about a mathematical model to reasonably quantify the work of a university teacher, in other words, the number of hours of work, the administrative activities carried out during the day, the activities with students, research and others. 
 
He also led the conference: "Publishing in Scientific Journals". The topics were:
 
- Scientific research and publications
 
- General aspects about publications
 
- The impact of publications
 
- Edition and refereeing journals
 
- Ethical aspects of publications
 
- Language, writing and grammatical structure
 
- Sections of an article
 
- Citations, references, biography and literature
 
During the second day of the meeting they held the conference "How to turn thesis works into international publications" which was aimed at students. The topics were:
 
- Define research
 
- Process to carry out research
 
- How to write a thesis and then turn it into a publishable article
 
- Structure of research
 
"The aim of these activities are to get students engaged in research", said Renato Fierro, director of the automotive engineering undergraduate program.
