To commemorate World Environment Day, the environmental engineering undergraduate program in Guayaquil held a series of conferences in order to create awareness about the importance of caring for the environment.

 

The speakers were from Universidad Nacional Mayor San Marcos (Perú), the Ministry of the Environment, Instituto Oceanográfico de la Armada and CORE CORP company. 

Some of the topics were:

 

- Environmental awareness

 

- Environmental control

 

- Environmental programs

 

- Climate change

 

- Waste water Treatment 

 

For Carmen Palacios, director of the environmental undergraduate program in Guayaquil, these activities help strengthen students' knowledge about environmental issues and learn about research carried out in this field. 

 

Oscar Tinoco, professor of Universidad de San Marco, said academia plays a key role in creating environmental awareness. "Universities are core in learning processes regarding environmental issues"

 

"Universities represent hope for the environment, it is an opportunity to make students become active participants to help the environment", said Freddy Villacres, director of CORE CORP. 

 

The environmental engineering undergraduate program is currently planning other activities to encourage students' participation in the field of environmental research.
