2nd International Symposium on the Environment

The environmental engineering undergraduate program in Cuenca held the 2nd International Symposium on the Environment under the topic: "Renewable Natural Resources, Environmental Impacts and corrective measures".
 
During the one week symposium, there were workshops about prevention, valuation and corrective measures for environmental damage; as well as keynote speeches led by national and international experts. 
 
The conferences were:
 
- "Natural background radiation and the risk with human health", presented by Laszlo Sajo-Bohus, from Simón Bolívar University, Venezuela.
 
- "Study of the concentration of toxic metals Pb, V, Ni and Cd in atmospheric inhalable particles in the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela" by Yulixis Nohemí Cano de Torres, of Universidad Técnica de Manabí, Ecuador
 
- "The integral management of watersheds analyzed through the context of water security", presented by María Z. Flores López. Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, México. 
 
- "Nutrient flow from Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela" Julio C. Torres Puentes from the Universidad Técnica de Manabí, Ecuador
 
- Study of the generation of gases produced in the degradation of biodegradable plastics", Jorge B. Amaya. Universidad Politécnica Salesiana.
 
- "Potential of native plants and of wide distribution for the phytoremediation of soil contaminated with mercury" Carolina G. Kalinhoff Rojas. Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, Ecuador.
- "Sustainable technologies for wastewater treatment" Antonio Domingues Benetti.  Universidad Federal Rio Grande del Sur, Brazil.
 
The final conference was given by Yaku Perez Guartambel who spoke about the importance of protecting water. He presented some facts about other countries that are lacking water and asked everyone to protect this vital liquid.
 
Cesar Vasquez, vice president of our branch campus in Cuenca, thanked all the participants as well as the organizers of the symposium and invited them to the next symposium that will take place in 2021.
