The Dicastery for Salesian Missions and the Salesian Pontifical University published the book titled "Amazonía salesiana: el Sínodo nos interpela. Contribuciones de los Salesianos de Don Bosco para el Sínodo y para una renovada presencia entre la juventud amazónica", by the Elledici publishing house, Italy, and coordinated by Martín Lasarte and Damásio Medeiros.

The book is about the memoirs of the Salesian meeting that took place in Manaus - Brazil, from November 1 to 4, 2018, where professors Juan Bottasso and José E. Juncosa from Universidad Politécnica Salesiana de Ecuador participated. Juan Bottasso presented three articles on the history of Salesian missions in the Amazon and their contribution to interculturality; while Juncosa presented a study of the Amazon in relation to the indigenous reality and young Amazonians

This book prepares the participation of the Salesian missions in the Special Synod for the Amazon that will be held at the Vatican in October 2019. This meeting was called upon by Pope Francis two years ago during his visit to Peru. "The panamazonía is made up of nine countries: Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana. The Amazonian indigenous people were probably never threatened as much as they are now. The Amazon is a disputed land on several fronts "he said.

In the presentation of the book, Fr Ángel Fernández, the Rector Major of Salesians, summarized this work in the following message: "Young indigenous people, migrants to the peripheries of the great Amazon cities, young Afros; young people from every race and condition that need a helping hand, an opportunity, work, education, from the Lord Himself, expect renewed hope from the Church "

He also believes that the Amazon is one of the priorities of the congregation. "We are determined to continue our pastoral and missionary action, mobilizing all the educational and pastoral resources. Just as the Synod will reflect and reach the voice in favor of integral ecology, we wish to be in tune with a comprehensive education, in which young people live in harmony with themselves, with others, with creation and with the Creator, "said Angel Fernandez, the Rector Major.
