Students, members of UTOPIA magazine, organized a talk titled "No more plastic in the sea" in order to create awareness on the need to care for the environment and sea life. Students from different undergraduate programs took part in the talk.

The aim is to encourage people to help reduce plastic waste and all sort of garbage from our beaches. The speakers were Nikita Gaibor and Enrique Laaz Moncayo from the national institute of fishery.

"The talk does not only focus on a campaign to create awareness, but also on the misuse of macro plastics which is highly pollutant. We have to change our habits because we all pollute somehow", said Betty Rodas, general editor of UTOPIA magazine.

For Gaibor, it is necessary that institutions work together in order to create greater awareness and come up with activities that help care for the environment, sea life and human life. "Interinstitutional and interdisciplinary work is fundamental to fight against this problem", he said.

In a first sample carried out nationwide by the National Fisheries Institute on 26 beaches of the Ecuadorian and Galapagos coast, they found that there is more than 65% plastic on the coasts of our country. "All the actions that have been suggested regarding this issue are going to happen and develop little by little," said Giabor.
