Students and professors of the automotive engineering undergraduate program in our branch campus in Quito arrived to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to participate in the 2019 Shell Eco Marathon Competition with their vehicle, which was built by a team of 16 students.

This competition will be held from the 16th to the 19th of September with the participation of students who major in science, technology, engineering and mathematics from universities around the world. Students present cars with high energy efficiency in order to reach longer distances with the same amount of gas.

The car was first presented in "Sur campus"; the presentation was attended by Angel Paucar, director of the undergraduate program; and the professors who guided the project: Paúl Molina, Vicente Rojas, Juan Pablo Tamayo, Carlos Álvarez, Paul Totoy and Ángel López. Angel Paucar spoke about how students developed their skills such as team work, creativity and trust. "I am sure this team will represent our country and university the best way possible", he said.

Anahi Zambrano, team manager and pilot, spoke about the characteristics of the vehicle, "Our prototype has an aluminum structure, carbon fiber bodywork, an aerodynamic design, mechanical steering, electronic injection system, modified Honda gx35 engine. The modifications allow the engine to be lighter, have better performance and adapt to the norms of the competition ".

The team is made up by the following students: Luis Aguirre, Daniel Andrade, Kevin Bravo, Miguel Cando, Darwin Jaramillo, Jandry Lara, Israel Martínez, Sandra Morales, Tyrone Obando, Kevin Osorio, Harley Pozo, Jairo Quishpe, Fernando Ramírez, Raquel Trujillo and Anahí Zambrano.
