The university provided shelter to indigenous protestors

During the national strike that took place in the country last week, the university became a zone of peace where thousands of indigenous people from 32 communities, especially women and children, who were in the protests took shelter; time during which students provided them food, medicine and other supplies.

Students and professors helped people who had been struck by tear gas, they cooked thanks to people's donations and also provided emotional support.

UPS president, Javier Herran, said "We are here for the poor, the indigenous people. The university is a place to study and transform society, our students have a political vision based on kindness…"

Professor Paz Guarderas posted a message on her facebook account which said how she saw the suffering, distrust and resistance of indigenous women; how children cried because their parents were out in the protests.

Today students returned to class; the university president wrote: "I am sure this experience will be a light in your lives that will remind you what you are capable of doing"
