Universidad Politecnica Salesiana (UPS) and Empresa Municipal de Aseos de Calles (EMAC EP) signed an interinstitutional cooperation agreement which will allow students in our branch campus in Cuenca who are majoring in mechatronics to develop an intelligent system to store household solid waste in the city of Cuenca.

The agreement was signed by Fernando Moscoso, vice president of our branch campus in Cuenca, and Juan Ordoñez, Manager of EMAC EP, in order for both institutions to cooperate with each other and strengthen academic research to solve problems in society.

The manager of EMAC EP, Juan Ordoñez, said it is very satisfying to work with UPS because one of the aims of EMAC, a public company, is to have a relationship between the private (the university) and public sector. "The aim of these two institutions is to help the city progress. We believe this agreement can be the start of great projects for both institutions".

Fernando Moscoso said it is important for the university to sign agreements that benefit society because it is one of the three main functions of the university: teaching, research and community engagement, which is strengthened through partnerships with companies. "We are committed to providing the community our professionals, laboratories and research in order to fulfill the objectives of this agreement"
