To learn more about technologies used in environmental information gathering processes, students from the environmental engineering undergraduate program in Guayaquil attended a course on the use of drones to gather information. The course was led by Cesar Alvarez.

The course was held in the "Maria Auxiliadora" campus and attended by 57 students who learned how to use drones for their professional activities. This tool is currently widely used in forest management analysis, identification of species, identification of environmental impacts, and more, helping improve studies.

The topics of the course were:

- Main parts of drones

- The main uses of drones

- Types of drones used for environmental information gathering

- The use of this tool for environmental studies

Once the theoretical part was over, students first practiced assembling the drone, taking aerial images and using the DJI-Phantom 4 equipment. "The use of these tools are part of the program's curriculum so students can carry out academic projects and research which can later be applied in the professional field", said Carmen Palacios, director of the environmental engineering undergraduate program.
