The university's branch campus in Cuenca inaugurated a new modern building which will be used for undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It is a four story high building located on Turuhuaico Av. and Calle Vieja.

The building was named after the late Father Juan Bottasso as a tribute to this salesian priest who was always involved with the university and devoted his work to learning about and strengthening communities of the Ecuadorian Amazon.

The new building is equipped with classrooms, laboratories and coworking offices for students to develop innovative projects and research. The postgraduate programs office will also be located in the new building.

UPS president Javier Herran stated that "the university never closes, it is open all day for all students so they can carry out their activities."

Student representatives were in charge of the ribbon cutting act; people who attended the inauguration ceremony were then taken on a tour of the new building.
