The Automotive Engineering undergraduate program held a tournament for prototypes of elliptical bicycles and mechanical traction buses in order to present the projects carried out by students during the semester.

In order to present the prototypes, a project is first drawn up by students in two phases, first is the design and then the construction. In the design phase, students present their ideas based on objectives, time, materials, and budget; in the construction phase, they work in creating the prototypes with their teacher's guide, using recycled materials.

The tournament is the final phase, where the functionality of the prototypes is tested. The competition had a jury made up of Jaime Zapata, academic coordinator; Raúl Conza, Chaplain; Mary Vergara and Carlos Roche, professors of the undergraduate program; who evaluated the oral presentation, the functionality, the materials that were used and the achievement of the objectives of the project.

The winners of the tournament were:

Renato Fierro, director of the automotive engineering undergraduate program, said "every semester we have a similar event, we use it as a methodological tool so that students use the information they have learned in their manufacturing processes class to build the prototypes. I thank all students for participating during the entire process, I thank them for their enthusiasm in order to strengthen this event and the undergraduate program."

"The experience of creating the prototype was very motivating, designing the bicycle had a low cost since we used recycled materials, everyone in the group shared their ideas, we worked approximately 36 hours during a month and a half, and thanks to that we won the competition", said Bryan Pinoargote, a second semester student and member of the group  "By to win".

The events are held at the end of each semester and are attended by students, teachers, parents and the community in general. This event was also attended by the Municipal Traffic Authority (ATM for its acronym in Spanish), who presented an electric vehicle and a virtual reality simulator to raise awareness about road education
