The computer engineering undergraduate program in our branch campus in Quito and VMware IT Academy Program celebrated "VMware IT Academy Day" by holding some virtual conferences on topics such as data center infrastructure and virtualization of data.

The aim of the event was to announce the opening of this academy in the university's campus in Quito, which is the first in the country to be accredited. Oscar Zuñiga, account manager, spoke about digital transformation. Jaime Cajamarca, expert in infrastructure, spoke about professional challenges; and Thalia Ati spoke about the operation of the data center.

Zúñiga stated that virtualization is technology between hardware and software. He spoke about storage devices such as: DAS, directly connected to the computer; NAS, connected to a network; SAN cluster storage on its own network. Some of the benefits he highlighted were the increase in computing resources, a greater availability of applications and greater ease to monitor data centers.

Cajamarca invited participants to create their personal brand, "know yourself, identify strengths and weaknesses. It is necessary to know what your goals are, identify what makes you different. Personal brand is related to what others perceive, experience and reputation", he said

Atí indicated that one of the advantages of having a Data Center is to consolidate physical services into virtual servers with greater processing and storage power. "A data center is dynamic, flexible, efficient, there is less use of energy consumption, availability of servers when required and security at the perimeter, installation, room and rack level."
