Maria Fernanda Mediavilla, student majoring in basic education in our branch campus in Quito, won first place in the competition title: "Los mejores del cuento con la configuración manual de la mano cerrada y la mano E", which was organized by the Ecuadorian sign language association (LSEC for its acronym in Spanish) with the support of the National Federation of dead people (FENASEC, for its acronym in Spanish).

Maria Fernanda won with her story titled "Tu eres mi felicidad para siempre", inspired by her pet "Kira". "I felt stressed and anxious because of my studies. I came to Quito from Ibarra by myself and "kira" makes my days happier…", she said.

The story is also about animal abuse. "I try to make people aware and understand that animals live with us, give us joy, allow us to solve problems and take away stress," she said.

She had some limitations in making the story such as technique, filming instruments, corporal expression and sign language. "It was difficult to think about creating the story using sign language." The experience of body movement is important for deaf people, especially children. "

The requirements of the contest were: to be a deaf person, create a story with a theme that the participant liked and the duration of the video was three minutes. To choose the winners, the use of the Ecuadorian sign language (LSEC), the grammar of the LSEC, and facial and body expression were considered.
