The written work on intercultural bilingual education, ethno education and interculturality that has been produced in Ecuador is being compiled, systematized and made public through open access in the Intercultural Bilingual Education Digital Repository.

Universidad Politecnica Salesiana (UPS) and the Abya Yala Publishing House – UPS are part of the agreement signed on January 2020 with Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), Universidad Andina Simon Bolivar (UASB), Pontifica Universidad Catolica del Ecuador (PUCE), Universidad de Cuenca and UNICEF.

Currently, they have uploaded books, teaching guidelines, articles and theses. "It has been hard work, especially regarding copyright issues", stated Milagros Aguirre, general editor.
UPS has a history of work in the field of interculturality that has been promoted through the three basic university functions: teaching, research and community engagement. "For UPS, interculturality constitutes a commitment to building a new model of society and political organization", stated Sebastián Granda, director of the Intercultural Bilingual Education undergraduate program.

It is a free access repository, it will contribute to the daily work of the teachers of the country's Intercultural Bilingual Education System and will be a resource for national and foreign researchers interested in the subject. "The aim is for the repository to bring together most of the books, research, thesis and articles written on indigenous education. In the country there has been research on these issues and there is educational material, but it was scattered and in many cases at risk of disappearing", said Granda.

The challenges of this project are to maintain and strengthen research, publications and dissemination on these issues; strengthen teaching programs, design training programs that respond to the new requirements of the indigenous and Afro-descendant population.

Granda considers that keeping the repository alive implies that universities are connected with the dynamics of life of the indigenous and Afro-descendant population and with the requirements of what the construction of an intercultural society implies; while Aguirre stated that, as a publisher, material is sought from other libraries and individuals to contribute to the repository. "We are managing the inclusion of private bibliographic funds, such as that of Ruth Moya, editor of our magazine "Pueblos Indigenas y Educación" he said.
