The IEEE Andean Conference on Technology and Innovation Ecuador 2020 (ANDESCON) was held from the 13th to the 16th of October; this is a biannual technical and scientific conference organized by the IEEE Andean Committee. It was attended by professionals and scientists from Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Colombia who discussed technological advances in the scientific and technological field. This edition of ANDESCON was held online through Cisco Webex.

The organization of the event was in charge of the university and professor German Arevalo, director of the telecommunications undergraduate program, and other professors who are members of the IEEE Andean Committee.

The conference was inaugurated on October 14th with the participation of UPS president Juan Cardenas, the president of the IEEE Andean Committee, Carlos Lozano; the vice president of the university's campus in Quito, Maria Sol Villagomez; the president of IEEE Ecuador, Mara Falconi.

In his welcoming speech, UPS president Juan Cardenas stated "the university's participation in this conference is very important for people so they can acquire new information and knowledge". Maria Sol Villagomez said that "these academic event show the potential of our professors, researchers and students". They both thanked the organizers, professors and members of the committee for their work.

300 research projects were received, of which 181 were selected by the scientific committee. The works are linked to the area of electricity, electronics, communications, computer systems, robotics, bioengineering, engineering education, process control and supervision, artificial intelligence, intelligent mobility, mechanics and materials.
