Monica Huerta, professor and researcher in our university's branch campus in Cuenca, was elected president of the IEEE Ecuador Section during the elections held from the 21st of December, 2020 to the 12th of January, 2021.

IEEE has been in Ecuador since August 4th, 1974 and has become one of the most important institutions in the country for its contribution to science, education and technology.
Up to 2020, there were around 1000 members in Ecuador, which is divided into 22 student branches, and 7 Technical Chapters (ComSoc, CIS, RAS, PES, EMB, IES & CSS and CS), and two affinity groups: WIE and YP, which have distributed their work and activities in projects that promote creativity, development and integration of knowledge in the community.

Mónica Huerta's objectives are to strengthen humanitarian projects, which will become a priority of the association in order to help less privileged groups and sectors, as well as promote relations with companies and industries and enhance support to different groups that make up the association.

11 candidates participated for president of IEEE, such as Fernando Urgilés Ph.D. Coordinator of the Biomedical Engineering Research Group (GIIB) and Mónica Miranda Coordinator of the Robotics and Control Systems Research Group (GISCOR)

Monica Huerta was grateful and said that it is one of the most important challenges of her professional career and hopes to have great achievements together with the Association, all for the benefit of the progress and development of the community of researchers and young people that are part of IEEE.
